The NEMA Type 2 electrical enclosure offers the same amount of protection as the NEMA Type 1, but with one added upgrade. The NEMA Type 2 like the type 1 protects it components from falling dust as well as protecting personnel from coming into contact with its components, but also adds a layer of protection from dripped water or lightly splashed water.

Like the NEMA Type 1 enclosure, the NEMA type 2 electrical enclosure is designed for indoor use only. The main distinction between NEMA type 1 and type 2 is the added layer of protection keeping water or other non-corrosive liquids from coming into contact with its components. Please keep in mind that this is only a minimum amount of protection, only designed to keep out dripped or lightly splashed non-corrosive liquids.

The NEMA type 2 electrical enclosures are often used in laundry rooms or cooling rooms where protection is needed from high amounts of condensation, that can cause dripping water.
