The NEMA Type 3R electrical enclosure is designed with the same level of protection as the NEMA Type 3 with one exception. The Type 3R comes with the addition of ventilation louvers. The NEMA type 3R has the same level of protection for personnel, as well as protection against falling dirt, water, rain, sleet and snow, but because of the addition of ventilation louvers it does not provide the same level of protection against blowing dust.

Just like the type 3, the NEMA Type 3R has a rubber gasket and is used for both indoor and outdoor applications.
